My husband and I love to go to local zoos and aquariums. There is just something about the environment that brings pure joy. Out of all the parks we have visited in the past five years, below are the 5 Zoos and Aquariums You Need to Visit Before You Die. If you have any suggestions for other parks we would enjoy, send me an email or drop a comment on Instagram!
1. San Diego Zoo
The San Diego Zoo is pure magic. On our visit we arrived early and were told to head straight for the panda exhibit, because it tends to have longer lines. My husband and I ended up spending the entire day there and only left at closing. What truly impressed me were the keepers and staff at the zoo. They were all so educated and happy to answer all our questions. It was obvious they take their jobs very seriously.
If you are ever in San Diego, the zoo it worth every penny.
2. The Florida Aquarium
The Florida Aquarium might just be my favorite place on the planet. Honestly, I could spend all day every day in the aquarium. I told my husband if we ever move to Tampa I would try to work or volunteer there. Again, the staff was so knowledgeable and kind. The exhibits were astounding. It made me want to become a marine biologist. If you love the ocean, you will love the Florida Aquarium.
3. Sedgwick County Zoo
The Sedgwick County Zoo is in Kansas and in my opinion it is comparable to San Deigo. My favorite parts of the park are the newly expanded elephant exhibit and the tropics. The zoo itself is a botanical beauty and feels like a haven in the middle of Kansas. I mean, typically Kansas feels windy and bland, but not at the Sedgwick Zoo. It’s also an excellent place to bring the kiddos.
4. Assiniboine Park Zoo
The Assiniboine Park Zoo is in Winnipeg, Canada. They have the largest polar bear exhibit I think I have ever seen. It was astounding. I felt as though we were walking through the wild and happening upon a polar bear. Be sure to bring your walking shoes to this zoo. You’re definitely going to get your steps in for the day.
5. Sea World San Diego
Until I visited the Florida Aquarium my favorite place on the planet was Sea World in San Diego. There are many mixed opinions about this location, and I completely understand why. I too have concerns about the size of enclosures for the animals in this park.
However, for the sake of this post I want to say upon meeting some of the staff at Sea World I was impressed by their love for each animal in the park and their dedication to educating the public. It was also the first place I saw a dolphin in person, which to this day remains the best day of my life.
