First, what are extended evening hours?
Extended evening hours is a benefit for guests staying at Disney Deluxe Resorts or Deluxe Villa Resorts. Epcot typically closes at 9:00pm, but deluxe resort guests are able to stay in the park until 11:00pm. During the extended evening theme park hours, select merchandise and food and beverage locations will be available. You also have an additional opportunity to join virtual queues.
Now, why would you want to stay in the park so late with kids?
1. Low Wait Times.
The first reason to utilize extended evening hours is to experience low ride wait times. You can use the time before extended hours to eat some delicious food and then ride some of your favorite rides with little to no line!
2. An Empty Aquarium
Our favorite part of extended hours was getting to experience a completely empty aquarium. The area outside the Seas with Nemo and friends is usually crowded and filled with kids. It’s difficult to get a good view of the various sea creatures. During EEH, we had the entire place to ourselves. It was magical.
3. Seeing Journey of Water at Night
We experienced Journey of Water – Inspired by Moana for the first time during extended hours. The experience was so lovely. There was hardly anyone with us and we were able to take our time. Also, the lights at night in that area make it all the more magical. Our daughter was having the time of her life.
4. Cooler Temperatures
If you are planning on going to Disney World during the summer, I highly recommend taking advantage of extended evening hours simply to avoid the sun. The day we were at EPCOT it was 95 degrees and very humid. Staying after sundown made it much easier to enjoy the park and save our skin.
Bonus: Trade Pins!
I’m not sure if this will be the case at every extended evening hours in EPCOT, but I saw a lot of pin trading in the park that night. There were people with books of pins just ready to go. If you enjoy pin trading, this might the time for you!
