The Good and Bad of Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside Resort

On our most recent stay at Disney World we had the opportunity to discover The Good and Bad of Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside Resort. We stayed two nights, but I sort of wish we’d had more time to experience this resort to the fullest. It was definitely exceptional. Read all the details below!

What We Loved:

1. Atmosphere

Port Orleans Riverside Resort was one of the most beautiful places we have stayed on Disney property. Though it might be a moderate resort, the theming was on oar with a Deluxe Disney resort, as was the service. There was a wedding taking place near our rooms and it was stunning. With the river, beautifully manicured gardens, and facade of each building… it was just stunning.

2. Royal Rooms

The royal rooms at Riverside are the only princess-themed guest rooms at Walt Disney World. They feature Tiana and various other princesses, such as Snow Shite, Cinderella and Ariel. I was very impressed with the space and available storage in these rooms. Our daughter could not get over her “princess” room. It took her an extra half hour to fall asleep, because she was so excited.

As a pro tip, if you are staying in a royal room then be sure to push the buttons on the side of each headboard to get a special good night firework show from Tiana!

3. Cast Members

We checked into our room very early in the morning after a long night flight. The cast members were more than helpful and so kind. We had multiple people helping us navigate the grounds. I’m always impressed by Disney cast members.

What Was Difficult:

4. Navigating Our Room Location

Our room was a little bit difficult to find at first. Once we memorized the location on the rather expansive grounds, it was not a big deal. Having a stroller was mildly difficult, because though there are elevators, you need to walk a bit to get to them. In the future I would try and get a room closer to the elevator. Overall the room location wasn’t at all a deal breaker like it was for us at Caribbean Beach.

5. Transportation to Parks

The transportation to and from the parks can be long. There are multiple bus stops within the resort and then you have to go to the parks, so depending on your bus stop it might be a bit of a jaunt. I expected this type of issue, because of the location of the resort, so it was not a big deal for us. If you are planning to rope drop, just keep in mind getting to your park might take a few extra minutes.
