bestillandwrite Last weekend for my husband’s birthday we went to SpaceCon San Antonio. This convention is America’s newest comic con. Attendees were able to get up-close and personal with favorite celebrities, voice artists, and comic artists as well as hundreds of exhibitors and special attractions. Our Favorite Parts of SpaceCon:
1. Panels
One of my favorite things about going to a convention like this one was getting to hear from actors and creators. I loved getting behind the scenes details about Star Wars and Guardians of the Galaxy. My favorite panel was with Ewan McGregor. He had so many stories about all the films he’s made. We could have listened to him for hours.
2. Meet and Greets
Another obvious highlight of SpaceCon was getting to meet several of our favorite actors. By the end of the weekend we were able to meet Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen, Gina Carano, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Michael Rooker and Sean Gunn. With one exception, everyone was very kind and lovely to speak with.
3. Artists
SpaceCon had a couple dozen booths withs artists and creators from across America. It was incredible to meet then and see their work, the pride they took in creating. We were able to buy a few pieces for our home.
4. Free Arcade
Something smart the SpaceCon team did was make the arcade completely free. My husband is a pinball nerd, so he was beyond excited to get to play a few of his favorite games. We could have stayed in there for hours.
5. Meeting Fellow Fans
Another of our favorite parts of SpaceCon was meeting fellow fans of Star Wars, Guardians of the Galaxy, and various other things. We spent some time in lines and got the opportunity to chat with the crowd around us. It’s always nice to share your passion with others, and most everyone we met was nothing but kind.
Our Least Favorite Parts of SpaceCon:
1. The Food
The worst part of SpaceCon (in my option) was the food. The options were limited and not very good. Basically pizza, burgers and hot dogs. I wish they had better food or more options available. Or we had packed a lunch…
2. Organization
It was our first ever “Con,” but I have to say I wasn’t super impressed with the organization of the event. There could have been a lot more details given to attendees beforehand, as well as more and better signage. We later found out they were short dozens of volunteers, which made things more difficult. I found myself wanting to step in and organize things myself, but this is a newer event, so maybe it was growing pains?
3. Feeling Rushed
When we had our photo opportunity with Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen, it was very rushed. There were so many people in line that we got maybe a minute with the duo. Both gentleman were nothing but kind, but it was disheartening not to have the chance to speak with them even for a couple of minutes.
