How to Handle One Day at Universal Hollywood

A few weeks ago we visited California and had the opportunity to see Universal Studios Hollywood. We originally had only planned one day at the park, but were able to do about a day and a half. It’s a pretty small park and you can easily accomplish everything in a day, so read below to find out How to Handle One Day at Universal Hollywood.

1. Buy an Early Access Ticket

We recommend purchasing an early entry ticket for Super Nintendo World, which will give you an additional hour in the park. You will need to go directly to Super Nintendo World, but closer to park opening you will be able to get to rides and lands before other patrons. The crowds were also much less daunting in Super Nintendo World early in the morning.

2. Don’t Forget a Poncho!

If you are planning to go on Jurassic World The Ride (which you should, because it is absolutely incredible), then you need a jacket or poncho. And put your hood up. It’s worth the spray of water, we promise.

3. Ride Secret Life of Pets in the Morning

If you don’t want to pay for an express pass (which in my opinion is a waste of money), then we recommend riding the Secret Life of Pets Ride in the early morning. The line tend to get longer for that ride in late morning/early afternoon.

4. Ask for a Tour of the Castle

At Hogwarts Castle in Orlando you can ask if muggles can tour the castle, and if they have the availability a team member will walk you through the castle and point out movie props and secrets. We found that in California they just let you walk through the castle and tour it at your leisure… but then we were able to just walk on the ride? It was a strange experience, but very fun.

Pro tip: The Forbidden Journey ride did in fact make us all very nauseous.

5. Remember the Escalators

Universal Studios Hollywood is split into a lower and upper lot. These areas are connected by a series of escalators or stairs. Super Nintendo, Transformers and Jurassic World are in the Lower Lot. Harry Potter, Simpsons, Minions, the Studio Tour and Production Plaza are in the Upper Lot. It’s not easy or very quick to navigate between lots, so we recommend doing everything you’d like to do in one area before moving to the next.
