We celebrated our ten year anniversary by visiting Dallas as a family for a long weekend. Why Dallas, you ask? Well it needed to be a location we could get to easily and we wanted to check off our bucket list visit to Magnolia Market. All in all Dallas was busy, but we had a great time as a family. 1. Dallas Zoo
One of the highlights of our trip was visiting the Dallas Zoo. It was a beautiful day and all the animals were right up close. We got to see giraffes, elephants, gorillas, hippo, and various other animals during our time there. If you love animals and spending time outdoors, then please make this a part of your weekend in Dallas.
2. Dallas Aquarium
The Dallas Aquarium is by far one of the most confusing places I have ever visited. However, I am trying to give it the benefit of the doubt. It was very busy on a Saturday, the elevator was broken and I have a dear friend who loved it. So, what I recommend is making sure you know where to start (we went through the exhibits backywards somehow?) and maybe try going first thing in the morning before it gets busy. Otherwise it was a lovely aquarium.

3. Half Priced Books
You might be wondering… why would we spend time as a family at Half Priced books? Well, if your family loves to read then you don’t want to miss the flagship store in Dallas (located at 5803 E Northwest Hwy). We spent hours pursing all the used books and taking a couple dozen home for our daughter. They have quite a collection, and it was wonderful to enjoy some slow time as a family just looking at books. Honestly, what’s better than that?
4. Brunch Time
Brunch Time is an Alice and Wonderland themed restaurant just north downtown Dallas. Though the food was pretty basic brunch, our daughter is obsessed with Alice and was thrilled to eat at her restaurant. The decor is so sweet and there are several spots for a photo. They’ve only been open a year, but I would be interested to see if they change up the menu to theme it more toward the book.

5. Klyde Warren Park
We didn’t have time to visit Klyde Warren Park, but we drove around it and I was sad we missed out on the opportunity. Known as the “town square” of Dallas, this park sits on 5.4-acre park in the middle of downtown Dallas. There are all sorts of events happening in the park throughout the week, from concerts to fitness classes to festivals. When we went by they had about a dozen food trucks. It looked like an excellent place to enjoy the evening with your family.
Bonus: Detour to Magnolia Market
We drove about an hour and a half from our hotel to visit the Magnolia Market in Waco and it was worth every minute of Dallas traffic. It was family friendly and so peaceful. Read more here.
