Looking back on our first couple trips to Universal Orlando, there are certainly a few things we could have done differently. A few changes could have made our trips there that much sweeter. Learn from us and read below to discover Mistakes to Avoid on Your First Trip to Universal Orlando.
1. Don’t Overpack
The first time we went to Universal Studios we packed a hearty backpack filled with “just in case” items like a change of clothes, ponchos, snacks, etc. Learn from us… don’t over pack. You will be lugging that bag around for hours and need to find a locker to put it in if you ride rides. Don’t bring the big bag.
2. Don’t Forget to Stay on Property
When you go to Universal, I highly recommend staying on property. Hotels like the Sapphire Falls Resort, Royal Pacific Resort, Hard Rock Hotel, and Portofino Bay Hotel all have boats that get you to the parks as well as walking paths. (All the Universal hotels have bus transportation.) And the easy transportation alone is worth staying on property. You can also easily get back to your hotel for a break, to change clothes or grab something you forgot.
3. Don’t Forget to Prepare Your Feet
On an average day at Universal or Islands of Adventure we walk 20,000 steps. That’s a lot of walking. After a day in the park your feet will likely be pretty sore. Be sure to pack comfortable shoes and maybe get used to walking that much at home.
4. Don’t Do it All in One Day
Universal Studios is technically two parks, Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure. Can you do both parks in one day? Yes. Should you? Maybe not. You will get more out of each park if you dedicate at least a day to each. Don’t overwhelm yourself by trying to cram it all into one day.
5. Don’t go During a Busy Season
Theme parks can be pretty busy, but there are certain seasons to try and avoid when going to Universal Studios. It will always be more busy on the holidays, in the summer and on weekends. If you are planning a trip to Universal, I recommend going in September or February. Historically for us, these times are less busy. You can also check out the crowd calendar on Undercover Tourist.
