The Best and Worst of Disney’s Art of Animation

One of my favorite budget resorts on Disney property is the Art of Animation Resort. If you have been thinking of staying on property, this hotel might be an excellent option for you and your family. Read below to learn about The Best and Worst of Disney’s Art of Animation.

Pros:

1. Large Sized Rooms

Depending on which room you get at Art of Animation, the rooms are actually rather big. We have stayed in a standard one bed room in the Little Mermaid area as well as a one bedroom (3 bed) suite in the Lion King area of the resort. Both were a good size, especially the Lion King Room. There was plenty of storage, which is also very nice when you are traveling with family.

2. Themeing

The theme at Art of Animation is absolutely precious. They have a four areas of the hotel: Cars, Lion King, Finding Nemo and Little Mermaid. If you have a little one who loves any of those movies, this is the resort for you. There are characters and photo ops everywhere you look. Even the front lobby is beautiful. And they take great care to maintain the exterior of the rooms.

3. Pools

Speaking of exterior, another pro of staying at the Art of Animation Resort are the pools. There are three, including the Cozy Cones, Flippin’ Fins and The Big Blue. Near the Big Blue pool there is also a small playground and splash pad. They have activities at these pools throughout the day as well. If your kids love to swim, there are plenty of places to do so at this resort.

4. Cast Members

I have yet to meet a rude cast member at Art of Animation. They are always so kind and helpful, ready to answer questions and give me tips to make our trip even better. I once had a very cranky toddler with me in the dining room and they were so gracious and patient.

5. Make the Most of Your Money

The Art of Animation Resort is cheaper than other Disney property resorts, and in my opinion it is a great option for the money you spend.

Cons:

4. Long Lines at Bus and Skyliner

My first con of staying at Art of Animation are the longer lines for the bus and Skyliner. The first time we stayed at this resort, I had no problem with the waits and was very impressed by the efficiency. The second time, however… it was a little different. Basically, be prepared to wait a little extra for transportation and prepare for that to be a reality, but be happily surprised if there is no wait.

5. Long Walk Depending on Room Location

Speaking of a long wait, if you stay in Little Mermaid area of the hotel, be prepared to do a little extra walking. I did not realize how far a walk it would be, and after a full day in the park pushing a stroller… I wish our room has been a little easier to get to. However, those rooms are cheaper than others on property, so you get what you pay for.

6. Can Be Crowded at Meal Times

The dining hall is average, no mind-blowing food options, but plenty of things for kids to eat. It can also get a little crowded at meal times, so I recommend eating at earlier or later than usual or getting your food to go. I don’t love a loud crowd, so I usual opt for a pick up and go situation.
