How to Save Money Going to Disney World

One of our most often asked questions is, how do afford to go to Disney? In other words, what are our tips and tricks on How to Save Money Going to Disney World? Although I’m continuing to learn new ways to save every year, I thought I would share what I’ve learned so far.

1. Rent DVC Points

My favorite way to save money at Disney World is by renting DVC points. Disney Vacation Club members have a certain number of points every year, and when they cannot utilize all their points, they rent them out at a discount. You can stay in bigger rooms or nicer resorts for less than half the cost. It’s glorious.

To learn more about DVC rental, I recommend checking out @BekahHart on Youtube. She does an excellent job of explaining all the details.

2. Don’t Travel at Peak Times

One of the best things you can do to stay on budget for your Disney trip is not traveling during peak seasons. Flights and tickets are more expensive during Spring Break, Christmas, Halloween, Easter, summer etc. If it is at all possible for you and your family, choose to schedule your Disney vacation during January or February, right before Spring Break or the beginning of November. These times will be less busy and tickets/flights should be cheaper.

3. Track Flights & Utilize Sales

One thing we do to save money at Disney World is track flights and utilize sales. Southwest has several deals throughout the year with discounted flights. If you know about your Disney trip months or over a year in advance, you can also track flight prices to get the best deal. Another strategy is utilizing flight miles. My husband has an American Airlines card that he uses for anything work related. We pay it off at the end of each month to accrue miles.

4. Order Groceries

Another way to save money at Disney World is to order groceries. Services like Amazon Fresh and Walmart will deliver the groceries you order straight to the hotel. Eating every meal on property can add up. Buying things like snacks, sandwich stuff or packs of water will help save you money in the parks. The waters especially, because you will be shocked at how expensive a bottle of water can be at Disney World.

5. Avoid Park Hopper Tickets

Disney World is made up of four parks: Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, EPCOT, and Animal Kingdom. (There are also a few water parks.) You can save money by avoiding the “park hopper” tickets and choosing one park to visit per day of your visit.

6. Annual Passholder Discounts

If you happen to have an annual pass for Disney World, then keep your eyes open for annual passholder discounts. I recently saves over $300/night on our resort stay, because of a pass holder sale.

7. Don’t Buy a Photo Pass

We don’t typically buy the professional photos you can get throughout the park. I choose to take plenty of pictures and videos on my own phone in order to save the couple hundred dollars a photo pass can cost.
