An Honest Review of the Gulf Shores Alabama AirBnb

My family took a trip to Gulf Shores in June and spent some time at our first airbnb. It was an enlightening experience, so I thought I would share An Honest Review of the Gulf Shores Alabama AirBnb. We had a good stay, but there were still a few things that didn’t go quite right. If you’re thinking of renting an airbnb or going to Gulf Shores, I hope this blog post will be of help to you.

Cleanliness

The first thing people check at an airbnb is the cleanliness. Do the pictures look like the actual home? Did they clean up after the previous guests? At first, I thought our airbnb did an excellent job. However, over the next couple of days my family noticed several things that were not quite right.

There were swimsuits left on the deck, a used towel on the back of the bathroom door and the vents definitely needed to be dusted. They were small things, but if you have high standards of cleanliness in your own home it would be hard to over-look. I will say when I let the host know everything we found she gave us a partial refund. I’d give it a 7.5/10.

Proximity

Our Airbnb was only a five minute walk from the beach. You could actually see the ocean from the back porch! It was so lovely to be that close to the sea, but to also be only a 10-15 minute drive from emergency amenities. Gulf Shores proper was about 25 minutes away from our house and Fort Morgan was maybe a 10 minute drive. I thought our house was in the perfect location for ease of access. I’d give this category a 10/10.

Amenities

The basic amenities were supplied, but nothing over the top. Small soaps for the kitchen and bathrooms were provided as well as bathroom towels. There was no laundry soap, so we did need to make a run to the store. Plenty of dishes and kitchen items were available, including some Tupperware. There was also an ice maker, which was extremely handy.

The one thing that disappointed my family was the condition of the beach accessories. The wagon and chairs were rusted and many of the items in the shed were unusable. I’d give it a 4/10.

Comfort

Another important thing I think about when choosing a place to stay is the comfort of the beds. We were told there would be three king sized beds, two singles and a double. As it turns out one of the single beds was in a closet. No one wanted to sleep in a creepy closet, so we had one less spot to sleep. The beds themselves weren’t wonderful. They creaked every time you rolled, so there was always a risk of waking up anyone in your room. I’d give them a 5/10.

Communication

Our host was very responsive before, during and even after our stay in Gulf Shores. She was more than willing to get a cleaning team to refresh the house if we desired, and was quick to make things right when needed. I would give this category 9/10.

Value

Our stay at the Silver Seashell was approximately $750 a night for nine people. Although the amenities were slightly disappointing, I would say considering all the factors of our stay that the value was worth it. Keep in mind, that was mostly because of the ocean access, responsiveness and proximity to other places. Depending on what you need for your family, this Airbnb might be a good option. Be sure to check out more details on their website.
