Disney World is a very warm place 75% of the year. The later in the summer, the hotter it gets. Although we try and avoid the hottest month, we have learned a few tricks to manage the most toasty days. Read below to discover How We Handle the Heat at Disney World.

1. Drink Water & Electrolytes
The first thing you need to do on a hot day at Disney is drink a lot of water. Have water with you at all times and remind your kids to take frequent drink breaks as well. I would avoid drinks that aren’t hydrating, such as pop or alcohol. It might hurt more than it will help…
Also, with all the sweating you will be doing, I recommend adding some electrolytes to your water bottle. My favorites are LMNT or sugar-free Liquid IV.
2. Misting Fan
So far we’ve only ever taken a regular fan with us to the parks, but I recently discovered a misting fan and oh baby am I excited to bring it with us on the next adventure. The humidity in Florida can be almost unbearable, so any air movement is a blessing.
3. Cooling Towel
Cooling towels are another easy way to handle the heat at Disney World. They come in all sorts of patterns and colors, and you can usually get them on Amazon for pretty cheap. Obviously the towels in the park are more expensive, so I would save yourself a few dollars and buy them before you come.
You do have to keep a cooling towel wet for it to be the most affective, but it’s worth the extra effort.
4. Mid-Day Break
Taking a mid-day break is key in handling the heat at Disney World for many reasons. You get a break in the AC. You re-hydrate or maybe take a nap. But you’re also avoiding the hottest hours of the day by taking a break.
5. Indoor Activities
When every hour of the day is a little too hot, then opt for more indoor activities. There are many rides, shows, shops and attractions that take place indoors. If you are struggling to beat the heat, then I recommend changing up what you had planned and staying inside as much as possible.
If you are traveling with littles, there are a few indoor playgrounds throughout the Disney parks as well. I recommend researching those before your next trip. Two that come to mind include: the playground in the Dumbo ride queue and at the exit of Spaceship Earth.
6. Sunscreen
Never forget to protect your skin. Re-apply several times throughout the day. Maybe even set a timer so you don’t forget.
7. Try a Treat
The final way we handle the heat at Disney World is to eat a sweet treat. There’s nothing quite like a mickey ice cream, dole whip or slushy on a hot day. Treat yourself!
Bonus: Chub Rub
I was about to publish this blog post and realized there was one more thing we bring to help us beat that Disney heat. Chub Rub is a non-negotiable item for my family. If you’ve ever chafed your thighs, you know why.
