1. BOYB: Bring Your Own Blanket.

Let’s face it. Hotel room blankets are typically crisp and thin and not that comfortable. Nothing feels better than sleeping in your own bed. Am I right? Well, bring a little bit of your bed on the road. Choose your favorite throw and make room in your suitcase.

2. Pack Your Favorite Mug.

Not only is packing your own mug a more sustainable option, but it adds another dash of home toy our hotel room. The mug I chose to bring on our last trip was a gift from my little sister. It’s a cherished possession. I cannot help but feel at peace when I look at it. What’s more homey than that?

3. Buy a Portable Essential Oil Diffuser.

Sleeping with the scent of lavender in the air is my favorite way to sleep, so calming. I found this small oil diffuser at Dillons one day, but it is also available on Amazon. It fits perfectly into my suitcase, and it perfect for travel. Hotels can smell stale or sometimes downright bad. A simple diffuser can completely change the atmosphere and create hygge in your hotel room

4. Carry a Sound Machine.

Depending on where you are staying, hotels can be loud. There’s traffic, other guests, construction, or rattling air conditioners. If you aren’t used to those sounds it can make for a difficult nights sleep. A sound machine can help clear our some of that noise and give you a comfy nights rest.

5. Have a Cup of Tea, or Coffee.

I bought this book called The Hygge Life that talks about the soothing affect of a good cup of coffee (or if you are me, tea). Travel is stressful and unpredictable. If you are traveling for work it may be even more so. The drinks provided at hotels are not always the best quality. Single tea bags can easily be packed in your carry-on, and are an idea item to pack.

6. Bring Your Favorite Products. Unpack and Settle In.

Travel does not mean you need to neglect your skin care routine. Pack all your favorite products and continue that routine in your hotel. There is something very soothing about a little organization and structure. It might seem silly, but unpacking your favorite products and placing them on the counter can help the hotel room feel more like home.

If you are staying for a few days, go ahead and unpack your clothes, too. The more settled you feel, the more comfortable the hotel will be.

7. Pack a pair of comfy PJs

If you are wondering how to create hygge in your hotel room, I am a big advocate for wearing real, comfy, grown up pajamas. Travel can wear you out, and the last thing on your mind might be a change of clothes. I promise you won’t regret the extra room in your suitcase for good PJs or even a quality robe.
