Have you ever arrived home from a wonderful vacation and suddenly felt low? We have to return to the every-day routines, to dishes and laundry, school and work. Returning to that monotony can be depressing, so I made a list on How to Overcome Post-Vacation Blues.
You might think that planning another vacation to look forward to might be the perfect remedy, but that isn’t always possible. Though, if you want to day dream a bit about your next journey, I encourage you to do so.
1. Unpack
The thing that helps me most when dealing with post-vacation blues, is to unpack. It’s tempting to leave your bags stacked in the bedroom or closet for days or weeks, but it will just be a reminder. And clutter can be stressful. Start fresh by choosing to unpack the first or second day you are home.
2. Make a Photo Album
Another thing you should not delay in doing is making a photo album. You can get a book from Hobby Lobby and print your pictures at Walgreens. Or you can send the photos virtually to Shutterfly to be printed in a book. Having your vacation photos easily accessible is a great way to reflect on all the fun memories and stay positive.
Bonus idea: My husband makes short vlogs or videos for the family to watch after each of our trips.
3. Connect With Loved Ones
Remember not to close yourself off to others when you are feeling down. I am very much an introvert, so sometimes I think I just need time alone when in fact I need to spend time with people who love me. It always does me good to reach out to a friend or family member and chat.
4. Practice Gratitude
Isn’t it an incredible thing that you were able to go on vacation? To travel somewhere and relax? Not everyone is able to go on a trip, and it’s incredibly important to focus on being grateful for what we have. Write down all your favorite memories from your vacation whenever you get a little sad to be home, focus on the good.
